Footprints — Parable of the Sojourner is a living poetry anthology conceived, written and designed by Emeka Okereke. It grows from a reflexive practice of poetry he has sustained alongside photography and image-making since 2008—poems he often describes as “images I could not make into photographs.” Rather than take the form of a traditional book, Footprints uses mobile digital technology as a medium of artistic intervention; the poems and the application through which they are encountered form a single artwork.
Conceived as an everyday companion, Footprints offers a fresh poem with each sunrise, without algorithmic selection, carving out within the screen a space for slowness, questioning and the gift of perception. As the cartographies of the external world are contested and inner landscapes reconfigured, the poems become at once sanctuary and mirror: temporary bearings in a journey toward and through the self, leaving one quiet footprint at a time.
